Murder of Selena
Selena’s family discovered that Saldivar was embezzling money from both the fan club and boutiques, which led to her firing in the first week of March in spring 1995. She also agreed to meet Saldivarat at a Days Inn motel in Corpus Christi to retrieve financial records on March 31. However, she has been refusing to turn over.
By claiming she had been raped in Mexico Saldivar delayed the handover. Check-in at a local hospital, where doctors found no evidence of rape when Selena drove her to the hospital. After that, they returned to the motel, and Delena once more demanded the records.
However, she then took a 38 Taurus Model 85 revolver from her purse and pointed toward the singer. The singer tried to flee, but Saldivar shot her once in the back, severing an artery. She ran towards the lobby for help when critically wounded, with Saldivar in pursuit of calling her a “puta”.
The singer Selena collapsed on the floor and the clerk called 911 and died in a hospital due to excessive blood loss at 1:05 pm.
Trial and Imprisonment
The Nurse Saldivar trial for the murder of Selena was closely followed by the Latino community in the United States. Cameras were permitted on the courthouse premises but the trial was not televised. Similarly, Saldivar’s lawyers successfully argued for the changed venue. She might not receive a fair trial in Selena’s hometown.
Before the start of the trial, CNN reported introducing a controversial police confession signed by Saldivar in which she said she shot Selena
“during an argument over accusations from the singer’s father that Saldívar stole money from Selena’s accounts”.

She accepted that the gun “[accidentally] went off”. The gun 38 calibers Taurus Model 85 revolver led prosecutors to conclude that the gun could only have been discharged if the trigger was intentionally pulled.
However, the judge did not provide the jury with the option of lesser charges of manslaughter or negligent homicide. They were able to convict or acquit Saldivar on the sole charge of first-degree murder. On October 23, 1995 Jurors deliberated for less than three hours before finding Saldívar guilty of first-degree murder.
Saldivar was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole in thirty years; this was the maximum prison term allowed in Texas at the time on October 26. She is serving a life sentence at the Mountain View Unit in Gatesville under operated by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
After the Conviction
Similarly, the revolver used to kill Selena disappeared after the trial. Later the gun was found in the home of a court reporter. The case was dismantled and the pieces were thrown into Corpus Christi Bay in 2002 despite objections from some historical groups.
