Lucy Spraggan reveals she quit X Factor after being raped

A hotel porter raped her in 2012. She revealed that he raped her when she was drunk on Rylan Clark‘s birthday in 2023. Lucy detailed her sexual assault at Mayfair nightclub Mahiki in her memoir : Process: Finding My Way Through:

“I woke up the next day with this sense of sheer dread. I don’t think I’ve ever felt that level of confusion since. I knew that I’d been raped, but I could not process that. So I put my clothes on and went into autopilot. The production team quickly called the police and an arrest was made within hours. The hotel staffer later pleaded guilty and was jailed.”

She even consumed PEP for the prevention of HIV but ended up having side effects that made her ill. The rapist was sentenced to 10 years behind bars.

Her appearance in the popular show, X Factor couldn’t stop her from mental breakdown. She revealed the mental health behind the successful career to RTÉ 2XM’s host Darren Cleary :

“I had a top 10 album in 2013. It was great and then out of nowhere I had a complete breakdown, I just lost myself. I didn’t know anything about me anymore. I was probably quite mentally ill. I was put on prozac and xanax and just told everything was ok, when I knew it wasn’t. I needed to find out what I wanted and that was to write music and go on tour, that was what made me happy again.”
