Corea was an American jazz composer, keyboardist, bandleader, and sometimes percussionist, Armando Anthony “Chick” Korea. He is widely recognized for his compositions “Spain,” “500 Miles High,” “La Fiesta,” “Armando’s Rhumba” and “Windows.”

In the late 1960s, he took part in the birth of jazz fusion as a member of Miles Davis’ band. He formed Return to Forever in the 1970s. He is one of the main piano players in the post-Jean Coltrane era together with Herbie Hancock, McCoy Tyner, Keith Jarrett, and Bill Evans.

Armando Corea was born to parents Anna and Armando J. Corea in Chelsea, Massachusetts. He was from southern Italy, his dad was born to a Catanzaro, Calabria immigrant.
